The BLCK family presents a cadence that feels like truth, a 3-part culinary installation set in the vast subtropical grounds of Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, exploring the utility of honesty as expressed through culinary and performing arts.
On April 3rd, join the BLCK family and their cousins Chef Ari and Jibade Khalil Huffman at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens for the BLCK family’s first public dinner of the year. With the purchase of a ticket, guests will be presented with three direct interactions with the artists’ multidisciplinary work.
The evening begins with warm greetings and libations from members of the BLCK family and opportunities to meet with other guests while enveloped in the aroma of forbidden black rice, scotch bonnet peppers and fresh coconut wafting through the air. If the idea of grilled peppa shrimp and coal roasted jerk beef brisket cause you to salivate, this 4-course Caribbean dinner by Miami-based culinary artist Chef Ari is exactly the kind of soul satisfying meal that you need. Closing out the evening, set in the lush gardens and architectural structures of Vizcaya, is a performance project by Jibade-Khalil Huffman and Def Sound, comprised of sounds made by Def Sound related to the joys and anxieties of blackness and projected videos produced by Huffman.
This new installation continues a standing commitment that the BLCK family has made to connect their communities in an environment built to encourage collaboration, foster creativity and manifest love.
