100 years ago, when Vizcaya was a private home, Miami was a dry city –alcohol was prohibited. James Deering, Vizcaya’s owner, kept a supply of liquor hidden away on the estate anyway. Based on the inventory of that liquor, it’s safe to say that Deering had a taste for gin and one might imagine him mixing cocktails with all manner of additions from Vizcaya’s edible gardens.
